News - February 2015

The news this time really is The News! I shall explain. Following a discussion with my website company Delwedd, I shall try to update this page in the website each month. Hopefully, it will mean that those who share our interest will feel drawn to the website on a more frequent basis.
On top of this a Twitter provision is planned, shortly.

SEA FISHING
Skipper Jason Owen, who operates out of Pwllheli harbour, tells me that he is awaiting delivery of his new boat. During the coming year he will be putting to sea in a new Cougar catamaran to be named simply HAF ALED. His new boat has more deck space for anglers, being a cat and also has greater shelter for them should the weather become inclement. Jason has drawn up an exciting schedule for the coming year and you can get further information by visiting www.northwalesfishingcharter.com Of particular interest might be the two day return trip to Ireland on which there is room for eight anglers.

SALMON WORKSHOP
On the 3rd and 4th of March a two day conference organised by GWCT and INMRA MorFish takes place in Wareham in Dorset. The conference will review progress in salmon population and monitoring. Too far away - do not despair as the GWCT man in north Wales, Rupert Bevan, is bringing the conference news here “hot off the press” on Thursday the 5th March. At 1930 hrs in Ruthin Castle Bill Beaumont, the GWCT senior fisheries scientist, will give a talk following the conference. The ticket cost is £20 and includes a Hot Pot supper. To contact Rupert email rupertbev@hotmail.com

LLYN BRENIG
As Llyn Brenig gets ready for a new season, opening on the 14th March, there are some exciting changes in the pipeline. Pike can now be fished using the fly! Pike on the fly will be from boat only and the permit will cost £15 plus boat hire. For a full schedule of prices, events, etc., visit www.llyn-brenig.co.uk/fishing or telephone 01490 420463 with other enquiries. Of course the great pike festival which takes place for four days, starting on the 1st of November, is still going to take place.

WET FEET?
Well if you are tired of your waders letting in a dribble (or two) there is a man who can help you! Diver Dave specialises in wader repairs and you can contact him at 07970 041452 or just Google “Diver Dave”. You will see all the varied things he can do to help you. One problem he is willing to tackle is the problem of leaky (expensive) wellies! Success in the wellie field is entirely dependent on the construction of the wellie in question.

WILD TROUT TRUST
You have waited for it and now it is nearly here! The WTT auction opens on the 3rd of March. To bid for any of the hundreds of (some exclusive!) auction lots visit www.wildtrout.org and follow the link to the auction site.

AND FINALLY...
Once again Natural Resources Wales has been subjected to criticism. This time in the letters page of the January Edition of Trout & Salmon. Mr T. S. Dallaghan (P64) questioned whether the conduct of the organisation constitutes “Democracy or Dictatorship”?
